Car Accidents

If you are the driver involved in an accident and no one is injured there is no need to call the police but you must exchange your name and address and registration number with the other party involved.
Police must be notified within 24 hours of the accident and your details supplied to them.
If you are involved in an accident that causes injury, death or property damage (and the owner of the property is not present) call 000.
If someone has been killed or injured in an accident you must report the incident to the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) within 28 days.
You are required to stop after you have an accident no matter how minor. If you are the driver involved in an accident, you have a legal obligation to stop and render assistance as best you can to any person who has been injured or killed – it does not matter whether the accident was your fault or not.
If you fail to stop (deliberately) or offer assistance after an accident you may be charged or fined or even imprisoned.
Even if no one has been injured or killed it is your responsibility to stop after an accident.
There is no requirement for police to attend every minor accident, however if someone has been injured or killed they should be called to attend.
If you are the driver involved in accident where someone has been injured, killed or property damaged or destroyed, you have a legal obligation to supply your name, address, registration number and details of th owner of the vehicle to the other party involved.
